40 mm stone chips are large-size crushed stone aggregates used primarily for heavy-duty and mass concrete works, road bases, drainage layers, and large foundations.
Their bigger particle size provides high load-bearing capacity, better drainage, and reduced cement consumption in thick concrete sections and base layers.
40 mm Stone Chips (Coarse Aggregate)
Nominal size: 40 mm single-sized coarse aggregate as per IS:383 recommendations
Typical applications: road sub-base and base, large footing concrete, retaining wall foundations, railway ballast, drainage and filter layers, and mass concrete in dams and industrial foundations.
Shape and source: machine-crushed hard rock (generally granite/basalt) with angular particles for good interlock and stability.
Properties: high compressive strength, good impact and abrasion resistance, low water absorption when sourced from dense, sound rock.
Usually combined with smaller sizes (such as 20 mm) or used in lean concrete mixes where steel congestion is low, to avoid voids and segregation.
